Clean fossil fuel utilization
Fossil fuel combustion systems still provide 80% of world power from burning fossil fuels and its usage will likely see the increment in the foreseeable future. Fossil fuel utilization is expected to increase due to global energy development and world power requirement. With its sky rocketing requirements to meet the current and future global economy development, there is a need to make the process efficient along with maximizing the energy output and decreasing the environment impact due to carbon dioxide emissions and other harmful emissions of gases.
Nowadays, global warming and acid rains are increasing every year as a result of environmental decay due to pollutants in the air. Some pollutants are so minute that they can enter deep inside the lungs and can cause heavy lung damage and irritation. With ongoing excessive climatic concerns, many industries and power plants are now following clean fossil fuels technologies which are efficient as well as effective in providing clean energy and clean utility systems.
Growth striving industries and global energy crisis need fossil fuel utilization in an efficient and cleaner way. Hence, by the development of carbon capture and storage technologies, clean-coal technologies, oxy-fuel combustion, emission and fuel assessment, combustion systems optimization and pollution control systems, scientist are striving hard to make the combustion process of fossil fuels efficient and effective for both environment as well as global.
One such efficient technology to curb the harmful emission of carbon dioxide is ‘Carbon Capture and Storage’. In this process, the carbon dioxide released from burning of fossil fuels and other industrial processes is captured and stored underground, thereby, restricting its entry in the atmosphere. This process involves liquefying and compression of carbon dioxide and then transportation through the pipeline to any permanent storage in Geolic formations.
This technology is already in use by oil industries for enhance oil recovery, but still it lacks in demonstrating adequately on large-scale coal-fired plants as components of clean energy systems. This technology for clean utility systems at new and large power plants offers the right potential of carbon capture and storage technology. It should be noted that more researches are going on for storing the carbon dioxide gas in terrestrial storage, mineral carbonation and conversion of carbon dioxide to beneficial products.
There is another clean way of fossil fuel utilization by using the method of clean-coal technologies. Coal is extremely cheap and abundant fossil fuel; hence its combustion system emits lots of hazardous gases. The technologies, which are involved in clean coal program, are scrubbers, Gasification process and Fluidized bed combustion, low NOx burners. These are the new devices which influence on burning of clean fossil fuels during combustion systems.
There are many researches, which are going on in scientific laboratories for determining the ways of clean energy through clean burning fossil fuels. Fossil fuel utilization has increased manifold, and reserves of utility systems are limited; hence, there is a need to produce effective and cleaner technologies, which gives rise to clean utility systems and clean energy. This indeed will affect the environment positively for nurturing the social and regional future of our global development more economically.
